Ella viaja con Dios

Spanish for She travels with God. I renamed my personal instagram account this when I had first started my very deep journey with our creator. I had started out through most of Central America and didn’t think I was ever going back to the states. What has happened in the course of almost five years, I would have never guessed, honestly, but when I changed this profile name I was already being told, “wow, you need to write a book! This is unbelievable.”

I get a lot of interesting conversations with people along the way and most (as written about in the post a few days ago) are mind blown to some degree. A lot of people don’t know how I am doing it and I don’t either but I know that God is and He knows all. A lot of people think I must have it all together in order to travel but really I just have all my things together with me and a whole lot of faith. Things can be easier when you don’t have a house, car, etc…. and some things are more difficult. Some people get excited and want to know more on how to live an adventure in living, while some get really judgmental and want space because they see it as a bomb ready to self destruct and I will be completely transparent in saying that it is a bit of all of the above.

This world is not as it used to be and is shifting quickly. There are a lot, well most, of the things that I do that are so foreign and challenging to most – we don’t watch television, I have been homeschooling my child since he was one along with giving him lots of hands on life experience, oh! the fact that I do this now as a mom, being vegetarian and then some times not knowing where we will sleep next (just to name a few). There is a lot about things in this world that are super convenient and there is quite a lot that is very disturbing. I saw a lot with the world and people prior to traveling and now I see a lot of the same and more. The one consistent sentiment is this: we need Jesus and to reconnect with our Father.

I could go on about the images, feelings and realizations that I have known and experience but instead I want to talk about travel tips as it seems that there are a lot of people that want to know about the surface first. What I find fascinating is how God has been preparing me to live out of a suitcase since I was a child when I would go in between my parents. I was told to pack my bags for my weekends with my dad and had to learn quickly that you have to be adaptable and pack for any potential. So, in a lot of ways this kind of living has been easy and there are still a lot of times when I would like more but have no idea what or where that would be anymore.

So, if you are thinking of traveling for an extended period of time or to just get super minimal and live out of a suitcase for awhile here are some things I suggest:

  • Clothes: pretty much a little bit of everything – 1 pair of shorts, a pair of jeans, a pair of nice pants, a dress, a skirt, a couple of Tees, a couple of tanks, a long sleeve, a pullover/hoodie, a swimsuit, 4 pairs of panties, 3-4 pairs of socks, one nice bra and one sports type bra and whatever you feel comfortable sleeping in – everything you need for rotating through and also potential for whatever weather. ** if you get something new, rotate something out** <- you have to remember to maintain a certain weight range for planes and also what you can manage to carry.
  • Personal items: nail clippers, file, comb, a few hair ties and clips, grab a bag of pads you prefer to always have available (never know how your cycle will change in different areas and what might be available), qtips, bag of sea salt for face wash/scrub, almond oil or other preferred oil for moisturizer, shampoo bar, toothbrush and paste of your preference, essential oil or deodorant for smells. ** if you wear glasses or contacts, have enough contacts to last for a bit and carry at least one set of glasses (I had two for a lot of travels).
  • Shoes: boots! they work through everything and are functional with all outfits – wear them to travel so the weight is not in your bag and use them often, they actually last longer than sneakers and will conform to your foot and use so they will be more comfortable. Go ahead and pack a small set of slides/sandals and if you feel the need and have space pair of low profile slip ons.
  • Essentials: small sewing kit, little scissors, super glue, tape, lighter/matches and a small multi tool or pocket knife is nice. Depending on how you are packing and what you feel you might need small thing of baking soda, iodine, genetian violet, neosporin or ointment of some kind, bandages, hydrogen peroxide. **hydrogen peroxide and baking soda are nice multi use things to have when available – you can clean blood out of clothes with the hydrogen peroxide and clean scrapes, the baking soda can be used for cleaning teeth, surfaces, deodorizing and even face wash.

Now, with me being more naturally inclined there are a couple of “special” items I tend to have on, like comfrey leaf powder, morninga and coffee.

Traveling with a child is a whole different topic and always evolving game but for the most part the same idea – pack a little bit of everything. I never would have thought that I would be doing all of this with a child but now that I am, I don’t see how I wouldn’t (haha). I recently thought of another little way God prepares for what is to come. Shortly after birth my ex was undergoing a lot of stress and paranoia, he felt it best to send me and the baby to his parents for a bit. I told him that it was too much to do but after the second time, I realized that I was being prepared for what was to come because there was no way I would be able to live under his control and views anymore. The miracles that lined up and allowed for us to leave are a story in itself.

“Where is home?”, some people ask us a long the way and I got to the point where I started to say, “Together, we are each others home.”. While we may not share the same sentiment on what home is, I believe we have a greater sense of connection, life and God than most that seemingly have it all together. I mean no offense with that statement, only commenting on how when people are established in their lives there seems to be an element of settling and acquiring of stuff that can take over and separate from very real truth that everything is because of God and nothing will be going with us as we move from living in to other. Not to say that people shouldn’t have things, homes and such but that there is something that almost seems necessary to go through a releasing of things and a gathering of greater connection…

Anyways. She travels with God and now with baby and while I may not have much I have so much to share. Want to know more? Have any questions? Let’s connect.
