Your body has a lamp

What is the first thing you notice about some one? I would love for you to share in a comment at the end of this post.

I was asked this once and I remember distinctly saying, “their eyes”. You can tell a lot in just a look at someone’s eyes: are they attentive, is there confusion, do they feel weird about you looking them in the eyes, glaze or wide-eyed..? But, what about when you see that glow in the eyes? The glow that looks like a fire is lit up deep inside of them and the eyes are showing a glimmer of what they hold or are… have you seen it?

The other day my son woke up and told me that I had Hallelujah eyes. I of course took a picture for a memory and to share – I so love when I get moments where he tells me what he sees in and of me. This immediately brought me to think about Mathew 6:22-23 and verse 24 rounds it all up with a worldly conviction. “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy (generous), your whole body will be full of light….” [I would like for you to get out your Bible or Bible app and read the remainder of the verses to see if God needs to get your attention in any way.]

I had started noticing this glow more with Christ focused and centered people and so appreciate these very real life moments when I am able to connect with the word deeper/fuller. I also started to see how my eyes have indeed been changing and the picture helped connect me to what I was seeing in others (I know it sounds like I am trying to toot my horn but I only blog what I am nudged to write about and want to focus on the actual fire more than me). You see, there has been scripture written about the ways that we are transformed by reading the Bible, worship and drawing closer to/with Jesus; there has also been recent studies proving the actual neuroplasticity of the mind that does indeed take place with continuous reading of the Bible.

Let’s take it even deeper. “In the beginning…” God spoke all in to existence – He spoke through His words and His words are His son whom He gave for us to follow and come closer to Him through. The more we draw nearer and read the word more, the more we also seek Him and alter anything that has any kind of impact in our lives. No longer do curse words feel good to speak or even hear. Those songs that you used to think were fun because of the beat started to make you cringe because the lyrics are defiling. Everything you do and represent changes because you literally change. Everything that was operating in sin and death has been breathed on with His life and has to change. Not to mention the very real truth that healing happens from Him. So, it makes sense… read the word, get closer to God and your eyes start to show Him in you! Awesome, right?

While I still have a lot of work to do, I was honored that my son helped show me that a lot of me has adapted in to my becoming. Hallelujah!
