It’s a Wonderful Life

This movie was one of my favorite “holiday” movies when I was growing up. I don’t really know why other than the fact that I just felt it so deeply. I am a pretty sensitive person and feel a lot in my own life and in the lives all around at all times. I am one of those people that can actually feel what the actors are acting for the story being relayed to us as viewers and am effected by the story. I have wondered if this was a gift at times but have found that this very empathic nature is what draws people to me knowing they will be felt and safe as they share.

If you are not familiar with this movie, I say watch it but will also say that it is a rather depressing movie until the very end when an angel intervened in the man’s life and brought him back to his family. I will go ahead and give the forewarning that this post is also slightly grey.

This time of the year is usually the most trying for me. Grocery shopping is so much more stressful and overwhelming, people are not filled with the kindness and joy of the commercialized “tis the season”… and the concept of giving thanks and gifts is polluted so much that I don’t even think people remember to actually give thanks anymore. Thanksgiving in itself is not a holiday but a time to overindulge, stress, argue and then sleep in a coma from it all. Christmas was established by the Roman Catholic Church to help overcome the darkness of the winter but it has been replaced with an even more darkness of alcoholism, excessive consumerism and a complete separation from those that are really in need and need to know the Spirit of the Lord. I have seen that even at most churches and people of faith struggle with all this as well; forgetting that as Christ is the light, has brought the light to us as His followers and commanded us to “be the light”… very few are able to hold steady the flame of Him in such a way that brings more light. (And I admit fully that I am one that struggles with holding my light a blaze because the bombardment of everything is just so much.)

So, we are at this tipping point standing on the edge of the calendar year. There is great power in going against the norm and the world’s ways but it is harrrd, especially now. I stopped participating in these events years ago and found better ways to contribute or you could say celebrate. One thing that helps me is to be of service. I know that every time I give or help in any way I am participating in God’s goodness. Here are some things that I have used to be of service – pick up trash in an area, help out with passing out food, gather small essentials for those that are without, get involved with a shelter and then just simply find ways to connect with His creation and people.

It isn’t easy to go against the “norm” that has been built up through so much time, but I believe it is necessary. We are in need of a real tradition and connection – to be there more for those that are in need and to do our best to hold His heart through all we do and are. The creator desires for us to turn to His son, the perfect one, the one who laid down everything for us to know and to live out of sin. Do you have it in you to stand with me and say no to spirits of indulgence, excess and selfishness to find a way to compliment and add to life that God so perfectly put in to place (you included)?

It is a wonderful life but only when we are able to step out of the fallen and with the resurrected. Life is meant to be lived and there are indeed angels of all kinds all around to help shift things… you could be one of those angels that are here on earth also! Is there something that you have felt tug at your heart to do? Take that one step, the rest will follow. You and life is worth the wonderful. Will you hold His light steady with me?
