“…from more important work. They are the most important work.” ~C.S. Lewis
While children can and are typically quite distracting there is a shift needed and I hear this quote in my mind often when I start to get a little flustered with the tenth “Hey mom” that I always answer to while typing, cooking or even in prayers. I so love how Holy Spirit helps me through things and re-organizes my focus in seeing that while I feel I am important and have things that need to be done… the most important thing is my child – no matter how distracting it might seem.
I love how we get an opportunity to get closer to God and see Him as the greatest Father while we get to be parents for His children. So many times I hear myself say something that I have definitely felt our Father tell me and then those moments when I do several “Father!, Lord! Help me! I need you….” throughout a day. When I get those moments of connections between me as a parent and our Father, I cannot help but smile a little and shift my view with gratitude.
I believe this is definitely something more of us parents need to tune into more and with. Our children’s everything is being developed and supported by our responses and interactions. I don’t know about you but I don’t want my child to feel the way I did as a child to my parents. But more than that I want to be sure that God is pleased with how His child is being raised and still confident in trusting me with this great task. The way we have lived has been an even greater trust both in me trusting our Father and in Him trusting in me but it is also a greater understanding and connection.
If you are not familiar with the quote stated at the beginning or that author then let me share some extra ‘aha’s’ with you. C.S. Lewis was an atheist until he realized that he could not discount it anymore and it continued to be incredibly obvious that there is a God, a savior of our souls and a vast spirit realm and his writings became testimonies and connections in various ways ever since. This man also had a great connection with his mum and I believe that this quote of his comes from this more than him being a stepfather with his wife later in life.
We may seem strange to the world but to my child we are the world and I am so honored to have the tiny moments of redirection in helping shape him in this wild world for our great great God. Hallelujah!
