Sure you are going through the motions of your days, but are you paying attention to it all? Would you even know if you were or weren’t? There is so much that is constantly asking for our attention these days, so much to look into and also so much to pay attention to. Sometimes it feels like all there is is to pay attention to everything that is around in order to just simply make it through the day – does that make sense?
I was at a Torah Club study group the other day and we were talking about how much God loves us that even when He tries to get our attention He still gives us free will. Last week my son and I focused on the book of Jonah and I found it just as relatable to this talk and also my personal life. Here is what I think the real problem is though… we are so consumed in everything that we miss the ways He is asking to be brought into everything. So often people just brush off what seems to just be something that happened when it was in all actuality God banging at the door of life. Are you able to realize how incredibly big and very real the spiritual is? Did you know that there is more things that go on in and around your life that are spiritual than you might be wanting to accept?
Now, I am not talking about the “new age” spiritual trap but the very real spiritual aspect of all that is. I am not writing about the spirit realm or spiritual aspects of life in the ways the enemy operates in getting people caught up in burning sage and seeking stones but in the very real truth that God wants to sought out, connected with, trusted, listened to and loved more than… anything you could give your focus to. I will put this in as a small note but not focus on it here – there is a greater agenda to the new age mess than most realize and it is taking people’s souls on a highway straight to hell. But, God Almighty (!) the maker of heaven and earth very much operates in the spiritual and wants your attention.
He wants your attention in the way that He puts a rainbow in your path reminding you that He hasn’t forgotten a promise, he wants you attention when He places a bird in front of that is feeding their young and themselves, when a squirrel is happily burying a nut that they will either retrieve for food later or will start a new tree, He wants your attention when you feel that amount of love that comes from a real hug and just as much as He wants your attention in all the glamour of His creation… He also wants your attention when you are hurting, confused, uncertain and tired. More than anything our Father wants you to turn to Him and say, “What is this? Help.”
One of my favorite ways He shows me things is when life and the word connect, He evens sometimes moves the pages of the Bible for me to wake up to something from Him. Last night I randomly open the Bible to Psalm 147 and the first thing that pops out to me is “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” but what continues later is, “He sends His command to the earth; His word runs swiftly. He spreads the snow like wool and scatters the frost like ashes… “He sends His word and melts them; He stirs up His breezes, and the waters flow.” Now at first I read these words and agreed but then He showed me and if we are not paying attention then we would miss the beautiful connection that He so desires. There was no notice of snow to be in the area but as we woke there was a solid blanket of snow all over and it was the most beautiful sparkly snow we have seen. The sky was blue and the sun was out and just as lovely as the snow was it was also melted and made to water the ground in the very same day. The most beautiful smile filled my eyes and face as I recognize how He got my attention and loves these moments of connection.
Are you paying attention? Really paying attention? The creator and master of the entire universe wants connection. You are worth every bit of energy that it takes in putting things in your path just to get your attention.
