Amazing Grace

“I do not think that our human minds have the ability to properly articulate the level of grace that comes from our Creator, words really just don’t do it justice. Just Amazing Grace.” I had shared this with another Bible aware mom and we both agreed.

This all was brought to a new level of eye opening, appreciation as I have been back in the book of Exodus. Most of us are aware of the incredible testimonies of how God led Moses, parted the waters and provided for the children of Israel but, there is (per usual with the Bible) greater layers to be seen, felt and applied.

The first level I had not noticed before was how angry God actually got with Moses when He presented Himself to Moses and called him to be His “mouthpiece” to save the people and how Moses continued to attempt to deny the Lord and His calling. When I read it this time, I felt a level of disappointment and then the part of Exodus 4:24 was brought to my attention – Moses’ wife saved Moses’ life, God’s appointments and anger is not something to mess with or take lightly. Then I noticed how as the “signs and wonders” were being shown to the Egyptians to prove that God was God and there is no other, most people know that it is written that God hardened pharaohs heart but there is a greater reason for this. Moses denied God five times and then gave ten plagues that Moses was to speak of first and then pray about when the pharaoh said he would do what was asked. In these actions God was establishing Moses as a leader and His helper – there is no way that Moses would be able to lead a huge flock of people and tell them to trust in the Lord while facing a giant sea if he did not first have to go through his own initiation process.

What happens as time continues is Moses is immediately obedient to the T of everything and he also gets to see the difficult task of bringing people out of slavery – physically, mentally and spiritually. Moses gets a bit of his own behavior given back to him as the children of Israel bemoan often, challenge the Lord’s abilities and literally want to return to the life of oppression at almost every turn. It is by their disbelief and disobedience that the wilderness journey was continually extended beyond its time into forty years… Have you heard the phrase, “You can take the (fill in the blank) but you can’t take the (blank) out of them.”? There is a serious pruning that takes place when we are taken from oppression, from the world, from sin and into the purpose God made for us. This is just the beginning of seeing the grace and the love that was truly had with and for these people, and Moses.

As the details of the commands continue the Amazing Grace continued to move through me deeper as I acknowledge just the amount of grace I have been given and how much He has had to work out of me. When I was a child my mom would hum the tune “Amazing Grace” to me and it always stuck with me and is still quite a pertinent song to my soul. I am convinced that God knew and trusted that I would come out of how I was and turn to Him and then gain this deeper value of what it really means to be given Amazing Grace.

Coming out of Egypt, Moses was the person God has called Him to be and then became a friend like Abraham as he trusted Him, had conversations with Him and was a leader for Him. May we all be witness to this transformations in our own lives as we either are called to or are brought into a position where we have to. May we all know the incredible, unshakeable love that comes from our God and the Amazing Grace given now through His son, Yeshua (Yahweh’s salvation). May we always be ready to take the appointment when God calls. Amen and Hallelujah.
