“What if… you got into the word with me instead of wasting time on that.” Was the very clear direction that I received while being asked to delete the last app of distraction from my phone. I had a brain game app that I would play different puzzles during times when I felt an overwhelm of emotions and just wanting to “check out” but isn’t that one of the problems with the world? Everyone is too quick to “check out” and mindlessly watch tv, play a game, drink to be numb or of course the doom scrolling time waste.
This post is kind of a add on to the “Let’s talk about space” post and maybe even the “Are you paying attention” post as well, as it has come to my attention just how important it is that real connection and connections are made.
Shortly before this guidance I followed the direction to totally wipe out my past as I completely deleted my previous life’s business instagram account and did not even save one bit of it. Honestly, I am surprised that I still had it for so long as I have thrown out everything else… but there is a timing for all things. Then I deactivated my personal instagram account as I felt the complete life suck that it was to be on. I had already removed the app from my phone because it is just too easy to tap on and do a “quick look” so it is said, which turns into a thirty minute dump. There was even a couple of months prior where I was led to get rid of absolutely all music on my phone and start over.
What I have found since I redirected my attention and use of time is that I look forward to praying and going deeper in the Word when there is time to and honestly while there is still a lot to feel, I am finding greater ease and delight in turning to God. Now, I will be completely honest in letting you know that the more this choice is made, there is also a greater tension that is felt. This tension is apparently normal but still something to be aware of. It is the tension between the world and God. The tension or rather growing pains that are in the self as you set aside the distractions, pulls of others and the desires of your flesh to be more mindfull and deliberate. But it is really quite lovely to reach for pray instead of the phone. It is comforting beyond a brain game and at the same time shows thanksgiving to the One that truly deserves far more than most of us make time for.
So tying all the three posts together. Are you paying attention? Do you know the ways your space and time are being used/filled? And are you willing to be more mindFULL and take steps forward to the One that made you?
