No matter where we go there is always a child or an animal that makes the effort to come near to us. This has been pretty common throughout my life and always a delight as I trust kids and animals with their instincts. It is funny to see how things happen sometimes. One time a older man was walking his dog and the dog was just losing it needing to come say hi – he was confused and asked, “Does she know you?”, “No, but we have taken care of animals a lot so I think they can just pick up on it.” Another time while putting shoes on after some play time a little girl who just arrived just came and started telling me all about her dress and nails, it was so cute. The mom tried to apologize to which I said, “Oh no it’s fine. Kids and animals tend to do this…” and she responded with, “Well, I take that as a good sign as those both tend to know better.”
We were sitting at a market having a cool drink and another child came and sat with us while the mom was going through the check out line and it got me thinking about this sense more.
Jesus has told us, “Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the Kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Luke 18:17
I think there is a lot more to this child sense than most my realize. Now, before I continue, I am NOT saying that I am better than or anything of that nature but wanting to point out this connection that being childlike and having that child sense or connection is something to consider relating with.
As children there is just this obvious understanding that all will be well and there is also an expectation to be cared for. Isn’t that exactly what our Father wants from us? For us to be at ease knowing that He loves us, that He will take care of us and that all will be well?! It is! I believe that through my journey and great reliance that I have developed a deeper childlike sense in knowing through the testimonies of His story in us that He does take care of us and is always with us. It is lovely to see how this gets translated with children too! Hearing, “God always makes a way.” and “God is just soo good!” from a child really puts this sense in greater focus and appreciation.
It is so easy as adults to lose sight of this very simple and truly necessary way to live. We can easily get caught up in thinking that the income made was by our own doings alone or that our own skills were just somehow came out of us instead of thought of for us and given to us to use. The world loves to take us from that childlike sense and taint all the senses and awarenesses into a truly upside warped way of seeing things and living – taking away the truth of who we are and whose we are and how we are to be spiritual beings first, keeping relation with the Almighty. Woo! But, as children we already know all of this and we are supposed to maintain this childlike awareness as His children…
So, what ways have you seen yourself either shift away from childish ways or ways that you have been called into being more light and childlike? It truly is a blessing to be a child and I would like to invite us all to ponder what Jesus said, asking in what ways am I accepting the invitation to be brought into the Kingdom of God as His Child. So worthy.
