Sowing and Reaping

I am sure you have heard that you reap what you sow, but how many of you actually acknowledge it?

The Word is all about seeds and harvesting in fact I would say that this is one of the greatest timelines that God operates on. Galatians 6:7 puts it clearly in saying, “Do not be deceived, God is not to be mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” But, how many of you can recognize what is sown? The next verse states, “For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.” What is of the flesh and of the Spirit you might be thinking? Flesh is easily detected for things of the world – pleasure, control, material stuff, greed, gluttony and sexual immorality (just to list a few) and things of the Spirit are that which uplift and allow God’s Holy Spirit to come through more which in turn brings greater life because we are because of the Spirit that is in us. [Spirit with the upper case S because it is of and from God, the spirits that are of the spirit realm or the spirits that afflict the self and body in the physical are not from God and are of lesser value.] But! As the reading continues it says in verse nine, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” Ah ha! Stay consistent with your planting and consistent good comes out of it. This is the ultimate key. I think I had a previous post that talked about the fruits and how we can determine things by the fruits that give knowledge on how to view something – fruits can be words, actions, children, income and further seeds. The greater the sowing the greater the harvest and representation or character.

Let’s break that down a little more though in the forms of your daily involvements. When working with others do you keep your word and follow through accordingly? (our words are binding and there is great value in being a man or woman of your word and this is also huge because if what you say is not consistent with what you actually do or if it is constantly changing then it is very likely that there will not be much confidence in who you are as a trustworthy character – this is a lesson I already work on with my young child and continue to impress upon how valuable it is to keep what you say and do waht you say you will do.) How you commit to things is also a big sowing aspect and ties into keeping ones word as well – this can be seen in relationships, work and or activities. More on words can be added on as to how you choose to hold conversations – are you talking about others in an uplifting manner or do you tend to be drawn to the “juicy bits” that give excitement but are not actually beneficial for the said person being talked about? And then there is the action part. What are you actively doing? When you do something, is it out of the goodness of your heart, for an agenda or representation? Do you expect something in return or just genuinely wanting to contribute? These are not easy to face, but so very important if we want to see the very real and life giving harvest that comes with sowing.

We all have something in us that needs to be uprooted and sown properly whether it is in ourselves or in terms of interactions with the outer world. This is not a post of condemnation but one of motivation with the hopes that we will all consider more deliberately what we are sowing on a regular basis and allow for greater harvests for ourselves and God’s greater good.

“Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, till He comes and rains righteousness on you.” (Hosea 10:12) Whoa, right? I love the Word. It is always so exact, directive and connective. But, do you see that one? Sow good, harvest mercy, remove the dross and messes and stay focused on the One and He Himself with reward with the proper rains and goodness of His great and awesome glory.

The Bible is literally full of cycles of sowing and reaping and the annual cycles can be seen in two ultimate seasons – seeding season and harvesting season (see Genesis 8:22). Our Savior the Christ states it plainly in Matthew 9:37 with, “Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” Now this, like all of the Word, is layered and as you continue to read and study and connect with Him through it, more will always be shown which is why it is timeless and always worth the read. At this current relating I will say that God’s harvest of life is huge but very few are willing to put in the work or to sow properly, effectively and consistently.

There is a section in 2 Corinthians that a lot like to quote for the idea of sowing with money and indeed it is so, but there is such a bigger picture in giving in and with the Kingdom of God. I will share it here, “But this I say: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.” (2 Corinthians 9:6-8) As mentioned above, there are many layers to and with the Bible and it is one of my favorite things. This very much is good for referencing giving of funds in various ways and is often referenced in order to give comfort for everyone to remember to tithe while trusting in God with what you release. But, let’s look at aaaallll the ways of giving as well. Yes, giving of money is one aspect and is seen in tithing, sowing into others and or projects and just general assistance with those in need. Then there is the giving of time which most realize is a high value item but few are realizing how when they give their time for the Kingdom and or towards others He too gives in response allowing for time to be efficient, to flow well and to continue. There is the giving of basics like food, clothes, shelter and the like – somehow when we let go of things that are either taking up space and or taking too much adoration instead of time with God he gives back greater and better. We can give in the ways of sharing insight and encouragement of knowledge from studies and or life experiences as well – as we give of these it makes it easier for others to want to learn more and or gives them just the simple hope to carry on.

This world is rigged on making you think that what you have, have gained or earned is yours and needs to held onto tightly. The enemy loves when we turn from remembering that all is because of God and the fact that He has given life and what is. This type of structure makes it difficult for people to let go of things and to cheerfully give with great knowing and expectation that God sees all and will enable greater to take place allowing you to continue in the good works that He has planted in you. Yes, there it is again another reference of sowing. He will not put something in you that He does not expect to harvest for His Kingdom and that alone should be of great encouragement.

This is a great topic and one that will continue to be realized and evolved through life and life experiences. I hope that as it is brought to you that you will allow your mind and heart to open greater and to see further than what is visible; to recognize the importance of who you are, your character and how you contribute to life in and around you. Seek the Lord and allow greater Spirit connections to come through. Plant seeds that will produce greater love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control for your own greater developments and for the greater good of all those that interact with you. You have no idea the impact you have on others and we must, as believers and followers of Christ, continue to seek to know and strive to be like Him.

Closing with some greater ponderings to digest and allow to grow in you: “Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”” (Matthew 19:21) “But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” (James 1:25) and Jesus says in John 17:23, “I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.”

Being aware of and deliberate in the ways you live your life, the seeds you plant in yourself, your environment and those around you is a great and worthy practice for greater quality of life. Take time to pray and connect with God in asking Him what ways or what things within you need to be uprooted in order to allow for greater soil for His plantings in you and in what ways would He like to see you sow into life – “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5) You are worth His great harvest and worth being a great sower of life. Will you take time to look at what you are reaping and look back to see what it is that you sowed? This is the first step and the one that will open the door as you ask for greater insight to be more intentional with how you sow.

Thank you for being here and any amount of support you are able to give – even in just reading or listening, liking, sharing and commenting is a form of support and is much appreciated. Please do reach out if you have any further connections, would like prayer or would like to sow into what this business can become.

“May the Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make His Face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His Face towards you and give you peace.”
