Most of us have probably heard a phrase of, “Talk the talk and walk the walk” or most likely in the manner of speaking with worldly relationships, “They talk the talk but don’t walk the walk”. I remember a time when I was a youth and this was a phrase in regards to walking in the way of Jesus and it is definitely a good focus but typically now a-days it is used more in terms of how so-n-so said a lot but didn’t walk as they said – we are all guilty of this at times as… well, life. But, what if we got back to the real of this?
“As for you, if you will walk before Me as your father, David walked – in integrity of heart and uprightness, doing all I commanded you, keeping My statutes and My ordinances – then I will establish the throne of your kingship over Israel forever, as I promised your father David saying: “You shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel”” 1 Kings 9:4-5 This is not the only time that God commands us to walk in His commands and Ways in order for life to go well for us but it is the one that was read today in my life and ties in well. The Statement from God continues in saying that He would separate Himself from the House of the Lord that Solomon had made for Him if these instructions were not followed through…
Recently, I slipped and while it might seem little to us I know it is big to our Great and Awesome God because even the smallest of missteps effects how He is in our lives which is why He emphasizes how incredibly important it is that we walk in His Ways and keep His commands. He worked through a situation that is definitely a huge Blessing and progress and instead of me holding fast to Him and staying true fully to what He commanded of me, I got caught up in the excitement of connections and possibilities for work and income which He had already told me was not the way for me. There is always some punishment or discomfort when we take even the slightest steps off of the Path that He has for us – my Pastor recently taught about how even though we might be forgiven of our sin or sidestep the seed was still sowed initially and we will always reap what we sow… So, instead of progressing smoothly upwards and forwards, a little delay and discomforts are added to the progress – some burning coals added to the refining fire, you could say.
God is serious and while He is also Love, he knows our hearts and what is best for us, for only He knows the Plans He has made us for and it is only when we follow Him that we can truly walk as we are intended to. Compromising God in any manner, especially as He has already given certain commands and ways of living is of the utmost importance and really fires Him up. It is our responsibility to rectify it within ourselves, for and with Him. What I find so awesome and mind-blowing is how He already knows what challenges we will presented with and the potential of us taking a look off of His Way – as Jesus says, “If your eyes causes you to stumble, gouge it out as it is better to go on living with one eye than be in the fiery pit of hades with both eyes.” (paraphrased) Matthew 5:29 – whatever keeps us from growing and moving closer to Him is not worth having. Best and easiest example is if a group of friends are a bad influence or if a person puts a job or something else before devotion – it is better for us to separate from those influences or to really knuckle down and rise above them in order to maintain our proper focus and alignment. It is sooo easy to allow life to get ahead and to cause even the tiniest shift off of, “Seeking the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness first…” thinking that we have any real pull in bringing the, “and all these other things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33) into our lives… I mean after all, He is God and the Maker of the entire universe!
So. While it might seem impossible, He always wants us to ask Him for strength and to hand over all our worries and burdens to Him, because truly He is the only One that can handle it ALL. It is so very worth just simply asking for Him to help walk His Walk, after all that is what He desires most is to be able to walk with His children. Will you accept His Hand and walk with Him into the life that He made you to be? “Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?” Amos 3:3 Will you invite Him in to walk you into the life that He made you for?
